About the job

  • Supporting and advising on the implementation of a broad range of e-commerce solutions, and conducting related research. This ensures that solutions are implemented legally, in an often-challenging regulatory environment.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a range of contracts, including customer facing terms, brand/bank partnership agreements, marketing and technology agreements, supply agreements, data protection related agreements and various other routine agreements.
  • Providing day-to-day legal support on operational matters, including advising on issues relating to intellectual property, consumer protection, data privacy, IT security, payments and counterparty disputes.
  • Dealing, corresponding and attending meeting/inquiries with regulators.
  • Attending to inquiries before the Consumer Affairs Authority and making submissions before regulators, where necessary.
  • Attending court when matters are heard and liaising with external counsels to ensure that the case portfolio is managed effectively.
  • Draft resolutions and attend to company secretarial matters.
  • Drafting, reviewing and attesting (either with the support of the external Notary Public or in-house) lease agreements and managing the files and trackers associated with lease agreements and related documentation.
  • Work with regional legal teams based in Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan or other Alibaba group entities and provide support where needed as directed by the Regional Head of Legal.
  • Also support the implementation of group-wide/regional legal compliance programs, policies, procedures and guidelines.

Job Requirements

  • Attorney at Law with Bachelors in Law
  • Notary Public (although preferred not mandatory)
  • 3-5 years relevant legal experience (top-tier law firms, in-house legal experience in reputed companies preferred).
  • Experience in trade, corporate/commercial, IP, data privacy, M&A, and/or consumer protection related issues is preferred but not mandatory;
  • Experience in fast-evolving, high pressure, and dynamic industries such as technology or e-commerce.
  • An excellent knowledge of the law and strong drafting and communication skills.
  • Ability to think critically and work with minimal supervision is a must.
  • A legal innovator, who comes up with solutions that are both legally strong and commercially practical.
  • A keen interest in e-commerce related legal issues with strong professional ethics.
  • A multi tasker with great organizing skills – who can manage multiple work requests at the same time without compromising on the quality and accuracy of the work.
